Late last month, on January 29, Chevy auctioned off the very first 2016 COPO Camaro, serial number 2016COPO001, at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The money from the COPO Camaro auction will be donated to United Way.
Chevy announced the 2016 COPO Camaro at the SEMA Show last November. The COPO is based on the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro with tons of add-ons to make it perfect for drag racing, like its optional supercharged V8 engine, a three-speed automatic transmission, and adjustable suspension.
Chevy collaborated with drag racer Courtney Force on the design, bringing inspiration from her own racecar for the sporty red and black paintjob.
This isn’t the first time Chevy has auctioned a COPO Camaro and donated the proceeds to charity; in 2015, the automaker gave the money to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, which helps disabled athletes and veterans. In 2014 Chevy donated to two organizations, the Achilles Freedom Team and Detroit’s Cornerstone Schools, an education system that focuses on helping urban youth succeed in school and graduate.
